Mr Mike Russell MSP was a guest at a recent scheduled meeting of the Nith District Salmon Fishery Board. Mr Russell’s constituency includes the entire jurisdiction of the Nith DSFB. In addition Mr Russell has a specific interest in the affairs of the Board due to his also holding the office of Environment Minister for Scotland.A presentation was given outlining the history of the Nith Board, the current situation and the Board’s future aims and policy initiatives. Mr Russell stated that he was impressed by the co-operation and good working relationship developed among the Board, SEPA and SNH. He expressed support for the Board’s initiatives and advised that Scottish Government was giving increased priority to dealing with wildlife crime, including salmon poaching. NDSFB will continue to promote and develop any issues that have an impact or bearing upon fishery issues and will maintain contact with all organisations, bodies and people, including MSPs to try to ensure that the highest standards of modern fisheries management are practised for the benefit of everyone having an interest in the resource.Sunday, 5 October 2008
